The intention of all workshops arranged through LTT is to change theatre from a passive to an active experience. Whether led by a cast member or a West End professional all workshops are planned to provide insights into the production and fully engage each group member.

More than anything the overall aim is to enthuse and inspire the students
and share with them an exciting, educational and memorable pre-show
experience.

With the National Theatre LTT Groups can experience workshops that explore key roles involved in making theatre. Through these workshops students will discover new skills and experience the excitement of theatre-making.

It is not necessary for a group booking a Workshop to be seeing a production at the National Theatre. However, the Workshops do provide an ideal introduction or follow-up for a group that have actually chosen to see a production.

NT Workshops are designed to support Drama and Theatre Studies at KS3, KS4 and Post 16.

Acting:
This Workshop will look at how the NT’s ever-changing repertoire and its three different theatres can affect how an actor develops a role. It will explore voice, physicality and text interpretation – focusing on a current or recent NT production.
Directing:
This Workshop will investigate how Directors at the NT work with plays, with actors and with others in a creative team to realize a production. Students have a chance to start thinking like a director, analysing a play and making decisions about how they would direct it.
Design:
This Workshop well follow the process of creating a set and costume design at the NT, from initial sketches to realisation. Looking at the work of
different NT designers, and exploring how plays and spaces impact on designs, students create a scale model of their very own set design.
Commedia Dell’arte:
A fun, practical Workshop exploring the Commedia dell’ Arte roots, using mask, improvisation, physical comedy and slapstick.

ENJOYING THE GLOBE
PAGE TO STAGE AT THE DONMAR
The premise of the Practical Workshops at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre is that plays are meant to be spoken and performed rather than just read.

Each Workshop is 90 minutes. General points are made including how the scripts would have been performed originally but specific references are made to a Shakespeare play of your choice.

Ideal if part of your visit to London includes seeing a Shakespeare performance at the Globe, National Theatre, Regents Park Theatre, the West End or a Fringe production.

Included in the 90 minutes is a halfhour tour of the actual theatre.

We are now liaising with the famous DONMAR WAREHOUSE Theatre in Covent Garden that offers workshops examining the skills required to bring a production to life.

The 2 hour PAGE TO STAGE Workshop can focus on various aspects of the process and is held in the Clore Studio, a beautiful converted warehouse space at the heart of the Donmar’s rehearsal building in Covent Garden.

LION KING DRAMA WORKSHOP

Also available are free West End
posters of the show and a DVD looking behind the scenes at the production.

Please note that LTT are only able to arrange these Workshops for residential groups.

The Royal Shakespeare Company is continuing to run their Workshops linked to their hugely popular production of MATILDA.

The 90 minute session, at the
Cambridge Theatre, is led by the RSC’s own practitioners and can be tailored to the age of your group. The Workshop is very popular and looks at the key characters in the show and how the story was created for the stage. The Workshop is only available Wednesday mornings prior to the matinee so forward planning is advised.
