CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME
AN INSPECTOR CALLS
THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG

The National Theatre’s production, based on Mark Haddon’s best-selling novel, won no less than 7 Olivier awards including ‘Best New Play’ before transferring to the West End. Fifteen year old Christopher discovers that the neighbour’s dog has been killed with a garden fork. He sets out to solve the crime. He has an exceptional brain for maths but is ill-equipped to deal with everyday life. Although forbidden to do so by his father he sets out on a frightening journey portrayed in ‘a phenomenal combination of storytelling and spectacle’ (The Times). Probably better for KS4 & AS/A2.

WORKSHOP OPTIONS:

  • NT Workshop combining script-work and devised movement to bring to life Christopher’s unique perspective on the world
  • LTT Physical Theatre Workshop linked to themes of the show
  • Post-show Q&A also available

EDUCATIONAL MATERIAL: Background Pack available including in-depth synopsis/character profiles/excellent practical exercises.

Whether or not they are studying it in class this is a wonderful opportunity for groups to see this multi-award winning production from the National Theatre and appreciate how a text can become an exciting, attention-grabbing theatrical experience. This masterclass in physical theatre and comic timing won the 2015 Olivier Award for ‘Best New Comedy’ and is hugely enjoyable. We get to see the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society trying to present a 1920’s murder mystery. Things begin to go wrong very early in the performance and quickly gather momentum culminating in a brilliantly choreographed high energy, frantic twenty minute finale. The production got lots of 4 star reviews and the New York Times judged it to be a ‘Gut-busting hit’. Please note that, as it says in front of the theatre, ‘Tom Cruise will not be appearing in this performance’.

  • Commedia Dell’arte Workshop with the National Theatre
